One of the things I like most about creating music in Ableton Live is it’s dual mode interface. Being able to quickly lay down a palette of musical ideas as clips or loops in “Session View” mode, allowing me to mix & match sound clips, triggering them in a non-linear fashion. These clips are the foundation for the song. Once I am ready, I can record my session into the “Arrangement View,” the linear tracks view that most of us are familiar with in DAWs. Here is straightforward video by Dennis DeSantis, demonstrating this simple process of creating music with Ableton Live. I will be posting more videos on elastic audio and other innovative features found in Ableton Live.
DJ Sasha had to custom build his own controller to manipulate parameters on Ableton Live Music Software, other DJs and electronic musicians have used custom software with multitouch screens or available MIDI controllers to more or less do the job. But AKAI released the AKAI APC40 a dedicated USB MIDI Controller especially designed for Ableton Live. I checked on the price at Sweetwater and it’s affordable.
For those of you who have not been swept off by Imogen Heap‘s storm of creativity, I am posting this video of this live performance “Live at Studio 11 103.1FM” recording/playing multiple loops of her voice with the “Ableton Live” elastic audio program and making it look so easy. I first listened to her at the end of Zach Braff‘s movie “Garden State,” with song “Let It Go” recorded with Guy Sigsworth while both performed as the electronic duo “Frou Frou.” She has done songs for the Narnia movies, Heroes TV Series and is presently working on her new album, you can catch funny personal video posts of her progress on her Official Imogen Heap Channel on YouTube.
