I’ve been a fan of Ryuichi Sakamoto since his early (1979) electronic music days with Japanese tecnopop band “Yellow Magic Orchestra.” YMO are considered the pioneers of the tecnopop genre, a major influence to modern Japanese popular music and to British bands like Japan and Duran Duran. His participation in the 1983 movie “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” (Dir. Nagisa Oshima) for which he wrote the theme song “Forbidden Colours” sung by David Sylvian vocalist for the band Japan, brought him major attention. His acting alongside David Bowie made the movie a memorable performance.
Most people would consider the beautifully nostalgic song “Forever Autumn” as a Moody Blues tune, but it was originally written by Jeff Wayne, Gary Osborne and Paul Vigrass and was originally released on the Vigrass and Osborne (1972) album Queues with moderate success in Japan. But it was until 1978 that it became most popular when Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues was asked to sing the lead vocal for Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds reaching #5 (UK Singes Chart) in 1978. I found this video of the Live Musical performance from the LIVE IK 2006 Tour of War of The Worlds.
Architect Michael Reynolds has spent the last thirty years developing the ideal sustainable home. He calls this type of design “Biotecture” and makes good use of recycled tires and aluminum cans for the building’s foundation and walls. The Earthships cost about the same as a conventional home to build, but without having to pay as much or in some cases no utility costs. Michael Reynolds has just released a new “Garbage Warrior” DVD documenting his plight.
It is important to understand the difference between HEMP and MARIJUANA (Marihuana). Yes, both are part of the CANNABIS family but were grown from ancient times for very different purposes. Lamont Dupont (Dupont Chemical Co.) and William Randolph Hearst (Newspaper magnate) deliberately made false propaganda about Hemp production to confuse it with Marijuana. Both would loose billions of dollars if Hemp continued to be grown legally and did everything to stop their competition. Their deceitful plot has brought drastic consequences to our economy and ecology. Countries like China and India never stopped producing Hemp and Canada has just re-legalized their Hemp growing Industry with billions to gain. When is the U.S.A. going to take off the blindfold and wake up from this deceitful economic transaction? Seems to me the fear tactics are working fine and keeping everyone under control, whatever happened to the pursuit of freedom? Freedom from lies and ignorance will set one free. Health Canada recognized the difference between Hemp and Marihuana and re-legalized the cultivation of industrial Hemp in March of 1998 and since then have been licensed by Health Canada to grow Hemp Food, Hemp Body Care and Hemp Industrial type products.

Last century British historians would prefer that you keep considering Vedic literary works like The Mahabharata and Ramayana as mythological legends. Never mind the fact that ancient India and Vedic Civilization provided foundations for most of the worlds philosophical doctrines, the mathematical use of the zero and so called “arabic numbers” (brought into Arabia by Indian merchants), and descriptions of the atom and the soul. Western egocentric civilizations refuse to acknowledge their sources, so one must play Indiana Jones and try to bring credit where credit is due. Lord Krishna’s lost city of Dwarka was one of these so called “legends,” but remains are now being uncovered by Dr. S.R. Rao, one of India’s preeminent archeologists. Economic Shock Treatment or The Shock Doctrine is Naomi Klein’s research on Disaster Capitalism. We can see now that it is possible to re-program or control a person or even an entire society with shock therapy. Why is no one doing anything about current affairs? This method puts the victim in a child-like state, confused and unable to confront it’s attacker. The best way to stay oriented, to resist shock is to know what is happening to you and why. This bring to mind a line from the movie DUNE: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
This video filmed by Dave Sowerby, features the best collection of street trials bicycle riding I have ever seen. Recorded in and around the city of Edinburgh, UK. It features Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill, you can look him up at www.dannymacaskill.co.uk
I felt this computer category needed the now historical intro to the multitouch interface concept by Perceptive Pixel founder Jeff Han during the Adobe sponsored TED2006 in Monterrey, CA.
The U.S.A. produces 12 billion tons of solid waste annually. Brian Appel and his team have built a giant chemistry set in Philadelphia that takes any kind of organic material (anything that contains carbon) and converts it into oil. The process is called Thermal Depolymerization “TDP” and it copies the earth’s natural process for making fuel. They start by shredding the material, mixing it with water, pressure cooking it and then separating the oil from the water.
