The ENV Hydrogen Powered Electric Bike is the world’s first electric bike to be built from the ground up, using Hydrogen as the only fuel source. ENV stands for Emission Neutral Vehicle. Intelligent Energy, the UK based company has won several awards for it’s design. The key to the ENV is the fully integrated fuel cell generator, providing power on demand, the cell converts the electro chemical reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen into electricity, and the only bi-product is water. The ENV generates about 8 hp (6 kilowatts) and reaches around 50 miles per hour (80 km/hr). It can be ridden continually for 4 hours on a full tank of Hydrogen costing about $3 dollars, with a range of 100 miles (160 kms). The lightweight frame is built from hollow-cast aircraft-grade aluminum. The ENV is undergoing regulatory approval in the EU, expected to be finalized sometime this year (2009) and they plan to start releasing ENV bikes gradually following the increasing demand for clean vehicles.
